Hopsin is an American rapper, music producer, actor, and director. He’s the head of the independent record label Undercover Prodigy. His discography includes Gazing at the Moonlight (2009), Knock Madness (2013), and Pound Syndrome (2015). He had a supporting role in the musical drama film Fame (2009). Hopsin was born Marcus Jamal Hopson on July 18, 1985, in Los Angeles, California. He grew up in the neighborhood of Panorama City. He has two brothers. Hopsin attended James Monroe High School in North Hills, Los Angeles. He was an avid skateboarder prior to his music career.

Hopsin developed an interest in hip hop music after listening to rapper Eminem. He also credited Michael Jackson as a musical influence. Hopsin’s debut mixtape, Emurge, was recorded between 2002 and 2003. It featured rapper SwizZz on the tracks “California” and “Fire”. The collaborative tape ‘Haywire’ between Hopsin and SwizZz was released in June 2009. It was led by the singles “Lucifer Effect”, “Bad Motherfucker” and “Leave Me Alone”. He was cast as “Fatty B” in a 2015 episode of the TNT drama series Murder in the First. He had a supporting role in the musical drama film Fame (2009). The film was directed by Kevin Tancharoen and stars Kelsey Grammer. Hopsin starred as “Face” in the independent musical film Bomb the World (2010).
