Police throw paw-ty for canine retiring after 7 years

A police department in Washington state gave a round-of a-paws to a police dog who retired after seven years on Thursday.

A party was thrown for Apollo at the Tukwila police station, replete with balloons, cake and other treats.

Yesterday, we celebrated our beloved Apollo as he served his last dog days with/ TPD,” police wrote in a social media post. “After 7 years of service sniffing out illegal drugs and bringing smiles to everyone, he's now ready to move on to sleeping in and eating endless pig ears. Please wish him a warm farewell!

Apollo is the only canine on the police department's K9 unit, according to Tukwila police department's website.

It noted that due to budgetary issues the department had not added to the unit which serves the patrol division.

Apollo began his serve in 2017 after he was rescued from a shelter and trained for narcotic detection.

Before his retirement, he worked with a detective on on narcotic interdiction investigations.
